Greater Richmond’s oldest Agile community

Founded in 2006, Agile Richmond is the premier community of Agile practitioners in the Central Virginia region.

Anchored by our annual conference, InnoVAte Virginia, we connect local Agilists with their peers in the community, while supporting the adoption, use, and growth of Agile practices in the businesses and organizations in the Greater Richmond area.

SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

Agile practices can be found in companies of all sizes throughout the Greater Richmond area, and Agile Richmond supports the community in continuing to learn together.

SUPPORTING LOCAL AGILISTS

Our Monthly Meetings are a great place for our community of Agile practitioners and growing experts to share their knowledge and work on their public speaking skills.

SUPPORTING OUR LARGER COMMUNITY

Agile Richmond is an active part of our community, working with other local organizations to encourage other user groups and create a path toward speaking to a regional, national, and global audience

  • Lyssa Adkins – Immersion: Professional Coaching Skills for Agilists

    SEPT 15th: Lyssa Adkins!

For September, we're going to be back together in person with a BANG! We're excited to bring our friend and mentor Lyssa Adkins to present Immersion: Professional Coaching Skills for Agilists.

    From Lyssa, describing her session:

"It is broadly held that both mentoring skill and professional coaching skill are useful for scrum masters, agile coaches, and managers -- and more often, agilists of all roles. Yet the differences between these approaches is not crystal clear for most people. In addition, most people have never seen a professional-coaching-only approach to helping someone solve their Agile problem. It’s time to show that!

  • JULY 21st: Ben Scott

    “Measuring Software Craftsmanship”

Join us in July when Ben Scott will discuss building and measuring a culture of Software Craftmanship in your organization:

It's only when your employees care about the quality of their work and when your organization rewards quality over speed that you'll make a lasting impact. To improve the quality of your deliverables, a lasting solution is to instill a cultural change. It starts with developers, but it is reinforced and encouraged by leadership.

In this session you will learn where to start and how to measure your progress.

    - Fallacies of Software Craft
    - The metrics that matter
    - Which techniques/activities impact which metric
    - How to start a Software Craft initiative

  • Dr. Joe Perez

JUNE 23rd, 2022: Dr. Joe Perez

“Leveraging Beauty and Brains for Effective Data Storytelling”

Anyone can make a pretty bar graph, but can you make sound decisions based on that graph? Is it actionable, or is it only fluff? How do you turn flashy concepts into actionable visualizations? Can you see the end result of those concepts; will they ever become reality? Do you have the vision to combine beauty with brains, thereby driving decisions with data? Or do you settle for destroying direction with disaster?

American mathematician John Tukey once said, "The greatest value of a picture is when it forces us to notice what we never expected to see." What value do you see in your data? And what ideas do you have when you see it? Learn how you can capitalize on your ideas by blending internal with external, leveraging them into a cohesive strategy for both the short term AND the long term. See the five "Stages of the Spectrum" in action while discovering the difference between impact and influence, and how that difference plays into making data actionable. Catch the right blend of art and science, or beauty and brains, as you go from concept to reality.

  • APRIL 21st, 2022: Shari Glover

In April, we're happy to invite Shari Glover back to the Agile Richmond community with an encore presentation of her talk from InnoVAte 2022: "The Importance of Mindset: How to Uncover the Hidden Ceiling to Your Potential":

We all want to live our “best” lives in our careers, finances, and relationships, and yet, that life can seem out of reach to us or is it? We are powerful creators–sometimes, for what we don’t want and that limits our potential.
